Morland support modular buildings for healthcare

With over 50 years of experience Thurston Building Systems are one of the UK leading provider of modular and portable buildings to the UK construction sector. Their modular and portable buildings are manufactured offsite so construction isn’t impacted by weather changes or other site issues. Utilising BIM and a controlled manufacturing process, they are able to build to a much higher standard than a traditional build

Project story

Thurston’s Building Systems have a high standing within the healthcare construction market for the quality of their build. Thurston’s wanted a supplier capable of delivering to their brief so that the site could simply install a pre-finished door set, with no complex joinery skills or time consuming processes required. They wanted one supplier that could offer a one-stop-shop solution for the internal timber performance door-set package, with the aim to reduce time spent on design and supply and to reduce waste and impact on site.
Initially they wanted a supplier to take on scheduling of:

  • Door linings widths and door-set handings
  • Architectural Ironmongery
  • Door edge and leaf protection
  • Supply of:

With the end goal being supply of fully-finished performance door-sets with all the associated edge protection and ironmongery included

Morland were able to work with Thurston’s to produce and deliver to site, factory controlled and produced, fully finished doorsets. Working closely with the materials and purchasing teams Morland were able to take ownership of the drawings and bill of materials to produce fully finished doorsets that met the initial scope. Then working closely with site teams on build schedules, Morland were able to deliver to site on schedules, reducing the need for labour and storage on site, reducing costs and still meeting site deadlines.

Elizabeth Addy, Materials and Purchasing Manager said “Morland’s attention to detail is first class. From challenging an inconsistency on some drawing information through to the finish and tolerances on the manufactured joinery, they demonstrate quality control. Yet they are flexible in adjusting schedules and specifications to accommodate commercial requirements”.

What our customer's say

  • “Morland are a supplier who can support a lean manufacturing ethos. They have proven this over many years with all the twists of turns of the market”

Nick Howard , Bailey's of Bristol
  • “We looked at Morland as a possible source for the items in question, but had no trading history with them. The parts would appear to be simple, but differences in board thickness between the Continent and the UK and a lack of good quality drawings in English meant that there was a fair amount of technical support required. Morland took over the drawing requirement quickly understanding our working methods which allowed us to move the supply without any disruption to our process”

    Ian Bird , Unite
  • “Morland continue to support the growth of our business and their development of lightweight furniture board as helped us offer a wider range of solutions to our customers. Great quality and incredibly easy to do business with.”
